Waterloo on the Grand 99’s Monthly Meeting for November
Meeting will begin at 7pm sharp.
7-7:20 Update, planning and business of the Waterloo on the Grand 99’s.
7:20-9pm Presenting Guest Speaker: Dr. Marilyn Dickson
Dr. Marilyn Dickson is a flight instructor and aircraft owner with multi-engine, instrument and seaplane ratings. She is an avid member of the Ninety-Nines – International Organization of Women Pilots, Canadian Owners and Pilots Association, The Canadian Aviation Historical Society, and the Malta Aviation Museum.
Marilyn has participated in the premier transcontinental speed competition in the United States known as the Air Race Classic. Bringing the fun and sport of air racing back to the forefront of Canadian aviation, she assisted by organizing and participating in Canada’s Gold Cup Air Rally, hosted by the 99’s for any woman interested in expanding their aviation skills through this outstanding event.
Marilyn Dickson will share her memoirs of her very good friend Violet Milstead Warren, one of three Canadian women who flew with the Air Transport Auxiliary in England during World War ll and was also Canada’s first female bush pilot.
Marilyn’s biographical research on the life of Vi Milstead became a serendipitous journey that explored the life of an extraordinary woman and also unlocked and revealed much about the characteristics of the early women pioneers of Canadian aviation from the late 1920’s to 1940’s. From ATA to western Canada’s “Flying Seven”, come and share the journey as we explore early women aviators and learn about a much too rarely spoken of, yet significant, aspect of our Canadian aviation heritage.
